Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

Always wash your hands before and after caring for your tattoo!!!

  • Washing hands before will prevent a possible bacterial infection.

  • Washing hands after will prevent the spread of blood borne pathogens.

You will be bandaged at the time of your tattoo.  Please leave the bandage on for 2-4 hours before removing to begin the aftercare routine.

Remove and dispose of bandage.

  • Do not reapply bandage or apply new bandage.

Wash Tattoo

  • Wash tattoo after removing bandage and then twice daily until the tattoo is completely healed.

  • Always use antibacterial, fragrance-free soap. (Dove, Dial, Ivory, Cetaphil, etc.)

  • Use a gentle, spiral motion with the fingertips to lather your tattoo.

  • Rinse thoroughly

  • Gently pat dry using a clean paper towel (A bath towel can harbor bacteria from previous use)

  • Allow tattoo to air dry for ten minutes after patting dry.

Apply ointment or lotion

  • After patting dry and allowing tattoo to air dry, apply a very thin layer of ointment or lotion to the tattoo.

  • Aquaphor ointment is recommended for days 1-2.

  • A fragrance free lotion is recommended after the second day. (Curel, Lubriderm, Vaseline Intensive Care, etc.)

  • Use a minimal amount of ointment or lotion. Rub gently into skin completely. There should be no residue on the tattoo.

  • Do not pick the scabs. This can remove pigment.

  • Do not expose to direct sunlight. The skin is damaged and susceptible to harm from the sun.

  • Do not submerge in water. Bodies of water can harbor bacteria.

The average healing time for a tattoo is 1-2 weeks.  However, this can vary with the individual and environmental conditions.  Maintain the aftercare routine until the tattoo is completely healed.

A tattoo is an open wound and is susceptible to infection.  Be mindful of activities that might introduce bacteria into the tattoo.  If you suspect that your tattoo has become infected or is having an issue, feel free to contact me at jbrettprince@gmail.com.  However, the advice of a medical professional is always recommended if there are any health concerns whatsoever.

Avoid any activities that might pick scabs or damage your healing tattoo in any way.

Any damage caused by improper healing will not be covered by the touch up policy.

After your tattoo is healed, proper maintenance is also recommended.  Like any pigment, tattoo pigment is susceptible to sun and fading.  A sunblock is always recommended to protect your pigment from the elements.  Proper moisturizing will also enhance the tattoo’s appearance, making colors bolder.

Thank you once again for your trust and letting me be part of this ancient and sacred art!!!  Let me know if you have any questions!!!
